Made in Italy in the 1950s by 2R of Medicina, near Bologna, and stamped to the base "2R Silver-Plate, Medicina, Italy."

Novelty silver-plate of this kind — walnuts, shells, animals — was an Italian speciality of the period, made for the table and the sideboard. The realistic modelling and the weight of the piece are the appeal. It works as a decorative object or a lidded catch-all on a desk, dressing table or side table.

Origin: Italy (Medicina, near Bologna)
Maker: 2R
Era: c.1950s
Materials: Silver-plate
Dimensions: 15 × 11 × 11 cm
Attribution: Stamped to the base "2R Silver-Plate, Medicina, Italy"
Condition: Silver-plate with an aged, tarnished patina (see photographs).
