We are now at Part III.
As we have looked at the light and the key elements of our living room, we can now pull everything together into a scheme.

Here's a mood board that captures the essence of the modern english aesthetic. A space that feels inherited yet fresh, curated and comfortable, it balances the weight of history with the lightness of modern living.
Walls and Floors
- Walls in Wollombi by Porters Paints
- Victorian timber boards polished but patina and showing of age left
- Huge Sisal rug to cover the floor
Furniture and Objects
- Howard style sofa, ideally vintage, with linen covers
- A brown piece - Georgian mahogany chest of drawers. Purchased through an auction house this item gives the scheme a visual gravitas
- A mid century chair covered in teal velvet to offer a tactile, welcoming feel but contrasting with the age of the other items
- Lamps from Beata Heuman and Penny Morrison, offering interesting spaces and varying lighting styles
- Vintage Italian Bamboo seat. Visually light in the room but adds a contrasting texture
- Antique pictures are a must. Love the cow!
- Ottoman with a geometric fabric to serve as footrest, table (add a tray) and extra seating
-
Handmade Afghan Chobi Rug - this is new but equally a vintage would work well
Textiles
- Elizabeth Chintz by Rita Konig for Schumacher makes the perfect curtains
-
Linen Ticking in Rum and Raisin by Rose Uniacke would make two great cushions to go on the sofa
-
Mohair in Sóller (blue) by Beata Heuman is a luxurious and tactile fabric that brings the scheme up to date. This could go on a footstool or a small cushion on one of the chairs
Finishing touches
Finally, there should be a candle (fig or woodsmoke works well), lots of books and some slightly bizarre ceramics. Staffordshire dogs would be great either side of a fireplace.
It is a room that invites you to pour a glass of wine, curl up on the sofa and stay for hours.
