Made by Buson

Made by Buson is a small line of pieces made by hand from material that would otherwise be thrown away — offcuts of good marble, the last of a beautiful fabric, remnants too small for anyone making things in any quantity. New is the last resort, and this is the last resort put to work: nothing here started life as raw material bought for the purpose. It was all left over from something else.

Why the leftovers

A stone yard cuts a benchtop and a good deal of fine marble goes in the skip. A fabric house finishes a run and the tail of the bolt — a metre or two of something lovely — has nowhere left to go. On their own, they're scraps. Together, with a bit of an eye and some hand-work, they become something you'll keep: a lamp, a small table, a cushion, a piece for the shelf that no one else will have.

A piece made this way costs what it costs because someone chose the material by hand, saved it from the bin, and made a single considered object out of it — not because a factory ran off a thousand. You're paying for the eye and the hours, and for the fact that when it's gone, it's gone.

One of a kind, by definition

Because the material is whatever happened to be left over, no two pieces are the same.  A particular seam in a piece of marble, the exact print on a length of cloth — you won't find it here twice. If you love one, that's your sign to have it.
