A reading corner works because of what's in it, not because of a theme. This one is built from five pieces: a hand-woven rattan wingback armchair, a willow-branch printed cushion, a tortoiseshell resin tray, a travertine bookend, and a purple Murano glass vase.
The armchair is the starting point — a 1960s–70s rattan piece with a woven wingback and looped detailing, sourced in Italy. Alongside it, a tortoiseshell resin tray from the 1970s does practical work: somewhere to put a cup down, a set of keys, whatever needs a surface. The travertine bookend brings in natural stone, its fissures and texture a result of the material rather than damage. A purple Murano glass vase, sourced in Murano, adds a single considered colour note. The willow-branch cushion ties the grouping together with pattern, without overpowering it.
None of these pieces were bought as a set. That's largely the point — each does its own job, and together they hold a corner without needing to match.
