About
I've spent twenty-five years around old furniture, lighting and homewares — finding it, restoring it, living with it, and eventually building a small business out of a simple conviction: that something with a past, chosen well, beats something new almost every time.
Most of what I sell, I find in Italy. I visit a few times a year — markets in the north, dealers I've bought from for years, the odd auction — looking for the pieces worth carrying home: lighting, glass, ceramics, the object you didn't know you were looking for until it's in front of you. They come back to the shop at buson.com.au, and more and more, they go straight into clients' rooms.
Some things I can't find, so I make them. Under Made by Buson I work reclaimed marble and remnant fabric — offcuts and leftovers that would otherwise go to waste — into pieces with the same weight and character as the vintage ones, because they're made from materials that have a history of their own.
And then there's the part that increasingly ties it all together: the rooms themselves. I moved from beyond restoring objects to restoring rooms. I started on my own home, and then this grew to family and friends, and now clients.
I don't believe a house full of lovely things is a home if it doesn't feel like the person living in it. A room should be rooted, full of things with history and a point of view, arranged around how you actually live, rather than decorated to look like everyone else's. The room you want is usually mostly there already; it rarely needs tearing apart, only seeing clearly and putting in the right order.
So whether you buy a single piece, commission one, or ask me to design a whole room with you from the other side of the world, it's the same thing underneath: helping you make somewhere you're genuinely glad to come back to.
