1970s German Cocoon Table Lamp by Friedel Wauer for Goldkant Leuchten
A beautifully resolved German table lamp from the 1970s, designed by Friedel Wauer and produced by Goldkant Leuchten — one of the more considered mid-century lighting houses working in Germany during this period.
The shade is formed from a warm beige cocoon — that distinctive spun resin technique that traps light within its fibrous surface and casts a soft, diffused glow in every direction. The cocoon form was a preoccupation of mid-century designers on both sides of the Alps, and Wauer's interpretation for Goldkant is among the more elegant: compact, self-contained, and entirely at ease in a contemporary interior.
At 29cm high it is a bedside lamp in scale, but works equally well on a desk, a console, or a reading table. Lit, the cocoon shade produces that characteristic warm amber quality that no modern fitting quite replicates.
A piece that will slot quietly into almost any room and reward you every time you switch it on.
