The Cocoon, Domesticated

A German table lamp from the 1970s, designed by Friedel Wauer and produced by Goldkant Leuchten, one of the more considered mid-century lighting houses. The shade is formed from warm beige cocoon — the spun-resin technique that traps light within its fibrous surface — casting the soft, diffused amber glow that no modern fitting quite replicates. Compact and self-contained, it reads as sculpture unlit. At 29cm high it is bedside in scale, and equally at home on a desk, console or reading table.
