1970s Italian Murano Glass Pendant, Clear and Burgundy, Space Age Aluminium Hardware
A striking 1970s Italian pendant in hand-blown Murano glass, with a form and presence that stops a room.
The shade is lobed and spherical — a pumpkin-like globe of clear glass with deep burgundy stripes pulled through the body during the blow, creating a pattern that shifts and deepens depending on the light and angle. The glass is thick and weighty, with the kind of optical complexity that only hand-blown Murano production achieves.
The hardware is equally considered: a brushed aluminium collar and canopy bracket with a distinctive coiled black cord — a detail that places this firmly in the Italian Space Age design moment of the early-to-mid 1970s, when makers like Mazzega, Vistosi and their contemporaries were producing glass lighting that sat at the intersection of fine craft and industrial design thinking.
