The Milan Pivot

A table lamp designed by Giotto Stoppino for Valenti Luce, Italy, c.1970. The nickel-plated base supports a pivotable shade, coated in white metal with an opaline plexiglass top, allowing the light to be directed while casting a soft diffused glow through the diffuser. A clean, architectural design from one of the more decorated figures of Italian post-war design — Stoppino was awarded the Compasso d'Oro three times, and his work is held in the permanent collection of MoMA, New York.

The pivoting shade makes it as practical on a desk as it is sculptural on a console or side table, and the nickel finish sits comfortably alongside both period and contemporary interiors.
