The Parquet Tray

This is a serving tray from 1970s Italy. The base is laid with split bamboo in a herringbone parquet pattern, set within a rounded cane frame with mitred corners. A bent-cane handle sits at each end. The parquet bamboo work was typical of Italian interiors of the period and appeared on trays, side tables and boxes. Over time the cane has taken on a warm honey tone.

It can be used to carry drinks or serve, or it can sit on an ottoman or sideboard to hold glasses and small objects.

Condition: Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is crazing to the finish, small splits along the cane frame, and light marks to the bamboo surface. The tray is structurally sound. Refer to photographs.
