Murano Glass Flush Mount Ceiling Light, Stepped Satin White Glass, Italy, c.1980s
The Ziggurat
This is a round flush-mount ceiling light in hand-blown Murano glass, made in the 1980s. The white opaline glass is formed in a series of concentric steps that rise to a small crown at the centre. Its satin acid-etched finish softens the light and shows off each ridge. The stepped profile draws on Art Deco architecture, a reference that 1980s Italian lighting revisited often. Lit, it gives an even, glare-free glow, with the rings showing faintly through the glass. The shade sits on a white enamelled metal base with brass fixing screws. The original Murano label is still attached.
It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a bathroom, or any room with a low ceiling where a pendant would hang too low.
