The Doorway

Three pieces of reclaimed Italian travertine: a square base, one side standing straight and the other leaning in. A pillar candle stands between them like someone in a doorway. The stone is left open and pitted, as travertine should be, and the sides catch the candlelight on their rough edges.

Put it on a mantelpiece or at the end of a dining table. It is at its best when the overhead lights are off and that candle is the only thing lit.
