Swedish Rölakan Flat-Weave Rug, Floral Border, c.1950s–60s
The Swedish Rölakan
A Swedish flat-weave rug in the rölakan technique — the reversible, tapestry-woven wool flatweave that defined mid-century Scandinavian rugmaking. A cream field is framed by a chocolate-brown border and a running band of stylised geometric flowers in dusky rose and taupe, the restrained, architectural palette characteristic of Swedish modern design. Handwoven in wool with fringed ends. A generous room-size piece that anchors a living or dining space, or reads as a textile work in its own right.
