V. Nason & C. Murano Sommerso Vase, Faceted Smoky Brown Glass, Italy, c.1970s–1980s
Nason, Labelled
This is a tall, faceted vase in Murano sommerso glass, made by V. Nason & C. in the 1970s or 1980s. A core of deep smoky brown glass is cased in thick clear crystal. The outside is cut and polished into a triangular prism with sharp, flat faces. The colour deepens towards the top and fades to pale amber at the solid clear base, so the faces read differently as you walk around it. The cut and polished finish, known as molato, gives the piece its precise, architectural profile. It retains the original V. Nason & C. Murano foil label.
It holds a single branch or a few long stems, or can stand empty on a sideboard or windowsill where light passes through the base.
