Modernist Blue

A 1970s vase from Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte of Schiavon, in the Veneto, glazed in the house's glossy mottled blue. Where the Sasso Bianco pieces are dry and stone-like, the blue glaze runs wet and deep, pooling darker in the recesses of the sculpted body — two finishes, one confident modernist hand, in the manner associated with the house's art director Roberto Rigon. Reads as sculpture empty and takes stems happily. Suits a shelf or mantel, particularly beside our Sasso Bianco example.
