The Cloverleaf
A sculptural trefoil ashtray from Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte of Schiavon, in the Veneto — three rounded wells joined at the centre, with pinched rests at the seams. The glaze is a sky-blue ground with reactive bursts of yellow and cobalt blooming in each well. Glossy, substantial, and well preserved — it holds a table as an object in its own right.
Was an ashtray, but earns its place as a decorative piece: on a desk or dresser, or on a shelf beside our Bertoncello vases and pot.
