The Ice Ring

A round backlit wall mirror in the German illuminated style of the 1960s–70s. A central mirror plate sits within a thick moulded acrylic surround, textured to resemble frozen or melting ice. Four E14 candelabra fittings are mounted behind the plate on a white lacquered metal back; when lit, the glow passes through the acrylic and lights the ice texture from within. Unlit, the sculptural frame reads as a decorative object in its own right. Mirrors of this type were made by firms such as Hillebrand, Erco and Schöninger.

Suits a hallway, bathroom or bedroom, wherever a soft ambient glow and a decorative form are wanted.
