Murano Swirl Glass Wall Light, White Twisted-Ribbon Glass, Italy, c.1970s
The White Swirl
A wall light in white Murano glass, the shade a gently domed shield with the classic rigadin ritorto (twisted-ribbon) swirl spiralling across it, mounted on a white-painted metal bracket. Italy, c.1970s. The opaline glass reads as a clean, sculptural curve unlit and glows softly and evenly when lit — the reason this white-swirl look has stayed in demand for hallways, bedsides and bathrooms.
The white swirl glass is the type long associated in the trade with Vetri Murano, though this example is unsigned, so it is offered on its own merits rather than as a documented piece. It suits a hallway, bedside or bathroom, and a matched pair either side of a mirror or bed is the natural use.
