The Cane Lanterns

A pair of vintage italian wall sconces in bamboo and cane. Each has a bamboo backplate and projecting arm carrying a lantern-form shade — a bamboo frame panelled in the hexagonal cane webbing known as Vienna straw. The natural fibres give a warm, dappled light when lit.

Era: c.1960s–1970s
Materials: Bamboo, cane webbing (Vienna straw)
Dimensions: Shade is 30cm square. Wooden frame is 40cm in height, and 45cm in length.
Attribution: Unattributed; unmarked, in the manner of the Riviera bamboo makers (and, in France, Louis Sognot). 
Condition: Good vintage condition.
