The Yellow Stripe
A hand-painted ceramic jug by Santucci of Deruta, the Umbrian pottery town, made in the mid-century period. A bright cadmium-yellow ground is banded horizontally in fine brown-black brushwork, wrapping the body, spout and handle — a graphic, modernist take on Deruta's centuries-old maiolica tradition. Signed “Santucci Deruta” to the base. A cheerful piece for a dresser, shelf or table, equally good holding flowers.
