The Coquille

A large scallop-form serving dish in white glazed ceramic, made in Japan. The shell is modelled with deep radiating ribs and a scalloped rim, rising to a short foot at the hinge. At 39cm across it reads as a centrepiece — a fruit bowl, a bread dish for the table, or a decorative object in its own right. The all-over white glaze is clean and even, letting the form carry the piece. Dishes of this kind draw on the classic coquille form used for serving seafood.

Suits a dining table, sideboard or entrance.
