The Blue Column

A tall cylindrical vase in hand-blown Murano glass, the straight column opening into a wide, flat flared rim finished with a dark applied lip. The blue body is shot through with mottled white inclusions — a spatter technique that lends the surface a marbled, water-like movement, deepening in colour toward the base.

The bold, graphic form and strong colour are typical of Murano decorative glass of the 1970s. Unsigned, as is usual for workshop production of the period. A generous vase that holds its own empty, and takes a single stem or a full arrangement equally well.
