Pencil Reed

A decorative amphora-form vessel hand-built from coiled split rattan — the pencil-reed technique associated with Italian mid-century work — with a tapered urn body on a flared ringed foot, a domed lid finished with a turned knob, and a single arched bound-cane handle. The reed has aged to a warm, even honey tone that shows the coiled construction to advantage. Attributed to Vivai del Sud; sourced in Piedmont. At 58cm tall it holds a floor or tabletop as a sculptural object, with practical storage under the lid.
